1984 Endeavour 33
Name: Tom & Cindy Ferrara tferrara@earthlink.net
Boat Name: Chesapeake
Year: 1984
Size: 33' sloop
Date Purchased:1998Boat History:
I believe that this Endeavour was originally delivered to it's first owner in Chicago and sailed in the Great Lakes area. We purchased the boat from the second owner who sailed her in the Great Lakes until 1995 when he came down the Mississippi river and along the West Coast of Florida to settle at Burnt Store Marina in Charlotte Harbor, FL. We purchased the boat in early 1998 and moved it to Clearwater, FL
Experience:
We began sailing by purchasing a used Hunter 23 in 1996 and began day sailing around Clearwater, FL. We sold the Hunter early in 1998 and purchased the Endeavour 33. We still mostly day sail her in the Gulf off of Clearwater, FL but plan to do some overnighting this fall and winter.
Boat Review/Upgrades:
We looked at a lot of used boats in the 30-34 foot range and found that the Endeavour 33 provided us with the largest living area in the cabin with an ample cockpit to seat 6 adults comfortably. I'm not sure if this was standard or not, but the dinette table on this boat folds up against the bulkhead yielding a nice "living area" below. Headroom is ample (6'2") and the cabin top is wider than most (this makes walking past the stays a bit tight, but well worth the extra volume to the cabin area. The boat is very easy to sail and has gives us good performance on all points of sail. My only complaint is that the head is set up so that the only way to empty the holding tank is to find a pumpout station. I would prefer (and may re-plumb this) to have the option of putting the discharge into the holding tank while in port, and then when we've gotten off shore the appropriate distance, pump out the holding tank via a macerator to the through hull fitting. We just got back from the sailboat show in Annapolis and were amazed at the lack of space (or perceived space) that the new 34 foot boats had. We even felt a bit confined when we got into a number of 38-40 footers. We made the right choice with the Endeavour 33.
