Boat History:
1984-1991: Mayer

Experience:
Over 40 years, was a sailing instructor, raced one designs and PHRF, sailed vessels from 13' up to a 65 foot staysail schooner owned by my family (and up to 44' power).

Boat Review/Upgrades:
Prior owner cruised extensively but did not not maintain the vessel well. When I purchased the interior wood work was badly damaged by water migration around opening ports that appear to have been improperly installed.

Have added radar and auto helm, restored interior with exception of the cabin sole which still shows effects of the prior neglect. Rebuilt pull-out double berth to increase width by converting from pull-out to flip over. 1998 replaced sails, changed from standard style main to a UK full-batten loose footed main with new 150% gennie. 1999 replaced all interior upholstery and exterior canvas.

My overall assessment is that she is very good handling boat, responsive on all points of sail (many boats will out point her, but sheel pull 7 knots to windward in 15 knots of wind) and a real engine off the wind. Excellent cruising accomodations but could use more fresh water tankage. Large head is a winner with both my wife and I and with couples with whom we have cruised, we never use marina showers, ours is better. Excellent room below, including galley. Shortcommings are the narrow double berths in the main cabin, voids in the deck gelcoat that open up from time to time.

Overall, however, I love the boat. She is lively, sails PHRF with a cruising rig rating of around 143, I've seen it rated as low as 135 tricked for racing. Excellent stability, took a knockdown in 30 knots of wind in a race, the boots were being pulled off as she popped up like a wine cork and kept on trucking.

And she's pretty too.
