Hi Paul,
I need to service my port winch and sheet cleat. I can access the starboard side easily as they bolt under the starboard lazarette.

I have an '78 E32 hull 324 and that $%^& fuel tank under cockpit seems to be in the way. Any other owner have suggestions? I have two old Lewmar 25 winches.

Andy...
I have a 1976 E32...must be the same design. The pocket under the winch (holds winch handles & stuff) are easy access. just unscrew them (15 or so screws maybe?), the pocket comes out, and voila! access to both the winch base and the cleat. I replaced both years ago, and moved the original to the cabin top for use with my full spinnaker, also added (gear & sail).

My 79 E-32 has a cubby hole on each side of the cockpit. I had to remove the port one to get to the underside of the port coaming.

I have an 1981 E32 on which I had to replace the port gib sheet cleat, and I had the same concerns as you. I solved the problem by taking off the overhead panel over the quarter berth that is to the port side of the boat. From there I could reach the underside of the cleat to accomplish the job.
