From: Ed Phillips EPhil49932@aol.comA discription of what the item your inquiring about does would be helpful. If you are talking about the shaft ends turned by belts, such as the water pump,,etc, they are called "Pulleys" in the U.S.A. as well. Could be your talking about the hydrolic system used to pick the engine out of the boat..these are some times called "Cherrie pickers", "TeePees", or, simpley "Engine pullers". There is one more area..to pull shafts from there slots, called a "Shaft Puller". Hope this helps, if not send me more info onwhat the items function is.

From: Carl Hibbard Chgypsy@aol.comHello all,
I have heard of engine "pulleys" being called sheaves, which is actually a more correct term. In looking through some U.S. and English vehicle shop manuals and find they are generically called pulleys.A "block" has a sheave in it, as in a turning block. Mast head sheaves also come to mind. I take it that you are trying to find one for an engine and someone has said they don't go by the name pulley....??

From: JOHNKOCHER@aol.comTry sheave.

From: Les Baston Miladi4us@aol.comChecked with a fellow sailor who hails from Yorkshire and both of us agree that the engine pulley must be the v-belt pulley that connects the engine to the water pump or alternator drive pulleys. Don't know another name for "pulley" tho.

From: Ed Yusis Yusise@aol.comUnless it means the same thing as somewhere else, how could we relate or answer the question ? If the object you are talking about is the round thing a belt rides on to turn the alternator or pump, then it is called a pully. If we are talking about something else, what ?
